Ion’s response to a ‘Call for Volunteer Web Designer’ email has lead into enormous change. Aside from doing the Voice of the Youth (VOTY) Network website, he craved for more opportunities to contribute to the dynamic organization. VOTY is known for encouraging the youth in creating positive social changes, and to believe in their abilities to make a difference in the country. Few months after being in the Web Development Volunteers Team, Ion was tasked to be the Executive Director. Together with other volunteers, VOTY continues to create environment where young people are exposed to new thinking, diversity of voices, new and real opportunities – leading into meaningful experiences.
Ion, through the non-traditional principles of VOTY, focuses on positive things that potentially may change the (negative) mindset of the young about their being Filipino and their roles in the society. With the great influences from Choy Gonzales and Emsie Reyes, and as a result of the regular non-traditional radio broadcasting, Ion has since recognized people's strengths rather than weaknesses. He participates in various Youth Action Forums, talks about youth leadership, non-traditional media, the MDGs, and other organization-developmental topics. He also leads workshops and team and capacity building of some organizations.
He has represented VOTY as resource speaker to various colleges and universities - University of the Philippines Diliman and Los Baños, AMA Computer College - Kalookan, University of Perpetual Help Las Pinas and Laguna, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, San Beda College, Colegio de San Sebastian, Assumption College, Philippine Normal University, University of Santo Tomas; and communities in Candelaria, Quezon; Buhi, Camarines Sur; Taytay, Rizal Galing Pilipino Movement and Rotary Club of Hiyas ng Maynila.

THE FRUITS. His love and involvement to youth service was recognized by the Rotary Club of Ramon Magsaysay – Manila, and was one of the pioneer awardees of the celebrated Rotary Youth Leadership Awards 2006 | Awards Ceremony |.
Though away from home, he continues to live by the principles of VOTY. Ion brings his experiences as a youth leader, a conversationalist, and a volunteer radio host (Voice of the Youth Radio), in everything he is into. A true leader transforms his vision into reality.
